OUR MISSION:

Keep communities safe.

One of the most significant challenges facing families and physicians today is how to navigate the impact of a medical condition or medication use that may have compromised the cognitive functions essential to safe driving. Or perhaps you have noticed a decline in the abilities or health of your parent or spouse, and are not sure if they are still safe to drive.

Our goal at DCAC is to provide objective and accurate information in a compassionate and respectful setting while assessing driver risk and addressing the safety concerns held by drivers, families and physicians.

DCAC is committed to ensuring the safety of communities. We achieve this through our partnership with DriveABLE Impirica, which leads continuous research, and development in the field of driver impairment assessment technologies.

We are proud to announce an expansion of services to include Impirica ExceleRATE technologies, a proactive risk evaluation system to measure a driver’s fitness for duty pre and post hire. ExceleRATE combines the power of an in-office cognitive screen (Vitals Mobile) with a gold-standard on-road evaluation (CORE).

ABOUT

THE DCAC.

DCAC, the inaugural driving assessment center in the San Francisco Bay Area, is licensed to administer the full protocol of DriveABLE Impirica assessment technology. Designed to evaluate experienced drivers, the DriveABLE Cognitive Assessment Tool (DCAT Mobile ) and the DriveABLE On-Road Evaluation (DORE) have been scientifically developed and validated, delivering accurate, objective, and impartial information for drivers facing medical and cognitive challenges.

The ExceleRATE protocol (Vitals Mobile and CORE) evaluates a driver’s fitness for duty and identify risk provides decision-makers in the transportation sector with critical information to proactively identify and manage real world driving risk.

Impirica’s mission is to create safer communities through the fusion of science and technology. Developed out of research that looked at how cognitive functions interact with everyday performance.

Our primary objective is to protect competent drivers, accurately identify cognitively unsafe drivers, and help improve safety on our roads.

ABOUT DRIVEABLE IMPIRICA

Evidence based assessments.

Based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, DriveABLE Impirica assessment technology harnesses 25 years of experience and research evaluating cognitive driving ability. Over 150,000 DriveABLE assessments have been performed to date in North America. DriveABLE Impirica has become the global leader in evidence-based impairment assessment technology for the fair and objective assessments of medically and cognitively impaired drivers, as well as driver fitness-for-duty evaluations.

CLIENTS AND FAMILIES.

Are you worried about your parent’s driving and don’t know if they are still safe behind the wheel? Is your family telling you they have concerns about your driving skills? Are you seeing changes or is there a general physical or mental decline in your loved one or self, and you need a baseline? Are you seeking peace of mind?

DriveABLE identifies medically at-risk drivers and dramatically reduces the potential danger to the driver, their passengers, and other road users. If someone’s ability to drive safely is in question, DriveABLE can help by being fair, accurate, and objective, giving you the information that you need.

PHYSICIANS & HEALTH PROFESSIONALS.

The question DriveABLE Impirica answers for most physicians and health professionals, is “Should my patient be driving?” and “How do I test them fairly and accurately?” A science-based driving evaluation validated by years of research and development is the answer. Our goal at DCAC is to support physicians and health professionals with identifying a patient’s driving risk, particularly for medically and cognitively impaired drivers.

OUR PROCESS

Evidence based assessments.

At DCAC, Certified Assessors and Certified Driving Evaluators engage the medically at-risk client in a two-part process. First, through an in-office tablet-based cognitive assessment (DCAT Mobile) utilizing a tablet-based platform designed to specifically test the interaction of mental processes necessary for driving a vehicle. The second part of the DriveABLE Cognitive Assessment is a specialized functional on-road driving evaluation (DORE) that tests specifically for decline in the cognitive skills needed for safe driving. DCAC offers the full assessment protocol, that is, the DriveABLE Cognitive Assessment (DCAT Mobile) and the DriveABLE On-Road Evaluation (DORE) for medically and cognitively impaired drivers.

We are excited to announce that DCAC is licensing to provide the Impirica ExceleRATE assessment and evaluation program for Light Commercial Drivers. This is a science-based, standardized proactive driver risk evaluation designed to answer the question of driver fitness and competence to drive. Combined, both the in-office (Vitals Mobile) and the Commercial On-Road Evaluation (CORE) provide decision-makers and companies with a fair and objective risk score.

WHEN TO CALL THE DCAC

Don’t leave important decisions to chance.

Driving is a complex task in which memory, attention, judgment and other cognitive abilities are used in concert to guide successful performance. Medical conditions can affect people at any age, but they are more likely to occur as we get older. Many medical conditions such as Alzheimer’s, heart disease and diabetes, can affect driving abilities. Medications can also seriously impair our ability to drive. Even when no single condition is severe, several conditions can combine to make a person unsafe to drive.

When a person is unsafe to drive, that person must stop driving. The problem is in knowing when to stop. The answer can be found through DriveABLE in partnership with DCAC. Ask for the assessment trusted by health professionals, families and licensing authorities to provide this crucial information.
